A senior marketing consultant
in the room, each month.

Ongoing advice on the plan, the spend and the people doing the work, with a second opinion before the large decisions.

Most marketing decisions are made between meetings, by people too close to the work to see it clearly. Consultancy puts a senior view beside them. We read the numbers, question the proposals and say which work deserves the budget, before the money is spent rather than after.

Strategy writes the plan. Consultancy is the Growth service that stays at the table while it is put to work. The advice comes from senior consultants based at our Norwich office, working with businesses in Norfolk and across the country.

A second opinion, in writing.

Before a large decision, a new supplier, a campaign, a hire or a change of direction, you send us the proposal. A few working days later you receive a short advice note: what we would keep, what we would cut, the questions to ask and a recommendation.

It is written so it can go to the board as it stands. Often the most useful note is the one that stops the spend.

In every advice note

  • What we would keep
  • What we would cut
  • The questions to ask
  • A clear recommendation

What the retainer covers.

Retained by the month, or booked as a single strategy day. The scope sets out how much time that means and where it goes.

  • Leadership meetings

A senior marketing seat at your monthly leadership or board meeting, with the figures read before we arrive.

  • Second opinions

Proposals, quotes, campaigns and hires reviewed before you commit, with a written note on what we would do.

  • Strategy days

A full day on site with the leadership team to settle one question: a new market, a change of price, a slow quarter.

  • Guidance for your team

Regular sessions with your in-house marketers to review their work, set priorities and help them make the case for budget.

  • Supplier oversight

Other suppliers’ plans, reports and invoices checked against what was agreed, so you know what the money bought.

  • Budget reviews

Where the marketing budget is going, what each part is bringing in, whether enquiries, sales or bookings, and what we would move.

  • Advice between meetings

A call or an email when something comes up, answered by the person who already knows the business.

Month by month, quarter by quarter.

The rhythm a consultancy retainer settles into.

Tell us where you’re going
  1. Brief.

    The first month.

We read the plan, the figures and the last year of marketing, and meet the people doing the work.

You receive a short written view of where things stand.

  2. Advise.

    Each month.

A seat at the leadership meeting, the figures reviewed beforehand, and time with your team on what comes next.

The actions agreed are written down and checked at the next meeting.

  3. Review.

    Each quarter.

The plan, the budget and the suppliers are reviewed against your business goal, with what we would change.

If the retainer is no longer earning its fee, we will say so.

Questions about marketing consultancy.

What does a marketing consultant do?

Gives a senior, independent view on the decisions that shape your marketing: what to spend, where, with whom and why. We join leadership meetings, review proposals and figures, guide your team and say plainly when something is not worth doing. The decisions, and the team, stay yours.

Do we need a marketing strategy first?

Not always. If there is a plan, we work from it. If there is not, the first month shows whether a full strategy would pay for itself or whether a shorter written plan will do, and we will tell you which.

How is this different from a fractional CMO?

A consultant advises and a fractional CMO leads. With consultancy, your team keeps the decisions and does the work. With a fractional CMO, a senior lead from our team joins your leadership team part time and is responsible for the marketing function itself.

How much time does it involve?

That is set in the scope: usually a monthly leadership meeting, a set number of hours for reviews and calls, and strategy days when they are needed. The retainer is reviewed each quarter so the time follows the work.

Can you oversee our other suppliers?

Yes. We review their plans and reports, join their updates if you want us there, and tell you whether the work matches what was agreed. Consultancy is not a route to taking over their work, and we will not use it as one.

Do you mentor in-house marketers?

Yes. Regular sessions with your marketing team to review their work, agree priorities and help them present their results to the leadership team clearly.

Can we book a single strategy day?

Yes. A day on site with the leadership team, set up to answer one question, followed by a written summary of what was decided and what happens next. It can also be booked once a quarter.

Do you come to our offices?

Yes. Leadership meetings and strategy days are usually held at your premises. The team is based in Norwich and joins meetings further afield by call.

How is it priced?

Every engagement has a defined scope and a stated fee, agreed in writing before any work begins. Tell us where you’re going and we’ll tell you what it would involve.

Ready to talk about your next stage of growth?
